[Support request] Web safe fonts and removing google fonts

Hi

I would like to increase my website speed by using only web safe fonts. Are these limited to only Arial or Verdana? Or are there are other fonts which qualify as web safe?

To further improve speed, should I disable the Google fonts also?

I am thinking of using the plugin “Remove Google Fonts References”, but I am not sure. Please suggest.

Hi there,

You can choose from any of the fonts listed in Customizer > Typography …. that are under the System Stack heading:

Arial
Century Gothic
Comic Sans MS
Courier New
Georgia
Helvetica
Impact
Lucida Console
Lucida Sans Unicode
Palatino Linotype
Segoe UI
Tahoma
Trebuchet MS
Verdana

As System Stack relies on the font being present on the device for the browser to use you will see differences across devices. For example Android devices don’t use any of them they just swap out for Roboto.

If you do not choose a Google Font in the Customizer, then GP will not request them. So should be no need to add a plugin
