By the way, how to you make the nice quotes from my messages in here? Is it by using the B-QUOTE button?
Yup – just highlight the text and click the
B-QUOTE
button. How come it doesnโt add the gray bar on the original starter site but it does on mine? Any idea why?
I’m not sure without going into the details unfortunately.
Iโll look into the Shortcode later on and will get back to you.
You will definitely want to use the Query Loop block instead of WP Show Posts:
https://docs.generateblocks.com/article/query-loop-overview/June 26, 2022 at 7:44 pm #2265285Yvon-PierreHey Leo, I hope you had a great weekend!
Yup โ just highlight the text and click the B-QUOTE button.
I’m testing the B-Quote button. I hope I got it right. Thanks for the tip!
I created the same posts as we see in the Donate Starter site and the elements needed to display the posts (Post Header and Post Width). Then I used the new Query Loop block instead of the WP Show Posts. This new block is very powerful.
As you will see on the Home page (https://donate.max4uni.com/wp_donate/), my Query Loop container (“Latest Articles”) is almost identical to the one on the starter site (https://donate-starter.max4uni.com/wp-ds/). The only thing I cannot figure out is how to remove the underline in the Headline block that displays the Post Title. Any idea how to fix this?
I’m ready to move ahead. What do you suggest? Completing the elements (Navigation Donate Button and Page Headers)? Blog page? Anything else?

I’m replying to myself now! I figured it out while duplicating the Customize settings from the starter site. To remove the underline, I went to Customize -> General -> set Underline Links to Never.
So I’m ready to move ahead with whatever you suggest.
June 27, 2022 at 1:57 pm #2266277Yvon-PierreI’ve added all the elements and imported the media. I think the last thing I have to do is to add the content in the blank pages. Here it is: https://donate.max4uni.com/wp_donate/
Do you see anything else missing apart from adding the content on the blank pages and fixing the links in the footer?
June 27, 2022 at 1:58 pm #2266278LeoStaffCustomer SupportGood job on everything so far!
I think we are ready to create the Page Headers and Post Header block element Page hero now:
https://www.screencast.com/t/HAjLrtW2RAoHere is the doc article:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-page-hero/The two are very similar – both are using the dynamic properties in GP and GB:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/dynamic-data/I’ll let you get started and let me know if you get stuck somewhere.

Hey Leo, I think we wrote our messages about the same time. I just completed these elements but I’ll check the docs you reference to understand better.
Here’s what I wrote a minute ago: Do you see anything else missing apart from adding the content on the blank pages and fixing the links in the footer?

We sure did ๐

I think this is pretty much it!
Another feature that you might be interested in (not used in Donate) would be a block element content template:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-content-template/It’s for making drastic changes to the blog posts loop display.
The video in the documentation should give you a good idea on how it works ๐
June 28, 2022 at 1:33 pm #2267336Yvon-PierreHello Leo,
I’ve completed the About page (https://donate.max4uni.com/wp_donate/about/). Only one thing I could not figure out and I’d like to have your feedback about it.
On the Donate starter site, there is a gap in between both paragraphs under the heading “The History of Donate” at the top of the page. I have no idea how the starter sites add the space in between them because there is no “Spacing” settings available for a paragraph block and therefore no way to add margin at the bottom.
For my site, I ended up adding a Spacer block and set it to 20 px high. It does the trick but maybe the starter site is using a better way. Can you please let me know how this gap is added in the Donate starter site?
Thanks again!
June 28, 2022 at 2:45 pm #2267394LeoStaffCustomer SupportAre you referring to this space here?
https://www.screencast.com/t/jNoUtixc5SIf so that setting is actually in the customizer:
https://www.screencast.com/t/bqfQq363d9SaThis is so that you don’t have to same the same numbers over and over again as the customizer settings are global.
Let me know if this helps ๐

It sure did! Thank you very much. I’ll keep building the other pages as I have time. It’s a great learning experience because I can see what each settings does. And being able to open the Donate starter site on a different sub-domain eliminate the guess work.
Another feature that you might be interested in (not used in Donate) would be a block element content template:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-content-template/
Itโs for making drastic changes to the blog posts loop display.I have not forgotten about this suggestion. I’ll finish building the pages and fixing the footer first and then I’ll look into it.
Thanks for your support!

Glad I could help!
June 29, 2022 at 6:23 pm #2268683Yvon-PierreHey Leo,
Out of curiosity, how did you get to the code shown in the screenshot shown here: https://www.screencast.com/t/jNoUtixc5S? Are you using Chrome browser -> Developer -> View Source or Inspect Elements?
June 30, 2022 at 9:54 am #2269490LeoStaffCustomer SupportAre you using Chrome browser -> Developer -> View Source or Inspect Elements?
Exactly – the Inspect option.
June 30, 2022 at 6:05 pm #2269766Yvon-PierreThank you Leo.
At the beginning of the rebuild of the Donate starter site, we activated the following four GP Premium modules: Blog, Elements, Menu Plus and Spacing. If I wanted to build a basic website using GB, I’m wondering which GP Premium modules are absolutely necessary. I’m thinking Elements at minimum, since it’s needed for the “block editor” (I assume this means GB), but I’m wondering which modules you would always recommend to activate?
July 1, 2022 at 11:18 am #2270585LeoStaffCustomer SupportThis is different for everyone.
I usually recommend beginners to activate all modules then deactivate the unused ones after – that is how I used to do it.
