Hi there, I am trying to upload an image to the header of my website (not the logo) I mean a big main image. How do I do this please?

Also, where do I find my account details as I have no idea when I need to make another payment for my premium subscription. Do I need to pay yearly? If so, how much? As far as I’m aware I did pay to upgrade but I’m sure it was over a year ago and I haven’t sen any new payments come out of my account.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

Where would that image go? Behind the logo?

The initial cost of $49.95 is for a copy of the premium plugin + 1 year of plugin updates and premium supports.
Your premium plugin will continue to work even if you choose not to renew after year 1 – the renewal cost (40% off the initial purchase price at the time of renewal) is for future plugin updates and premium supports.

You should be able to check the license expiration date in your account as seen here:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/renewing-license-keys/

    Thanks Leo for your reply.
Yes, I mean behind the logo. Most people have an image there. Also, I would like my logo to be kn the top bar on the left. I plan on changing it so it’s a long version not a square. Don’t suppose you know how I can do this do you? There doesn’t seem to be an option for it in canvas.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

make sure you have the Backgrounds module enabled in Appearance > GeneratePress:

    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/backgrounds-overview/

Then you can add one in Customizer > Backgrounds > Header

    Hi Davis,

Thanks, and yes I understand what you have said and have applied it but now I’m facing a different issue. I would actually like my logo on the top bar (not the logo that I have at the moment as it’s square, but a longer one if you know what I mean). Anyway, when I try to get rid of the logo from the position that it’s currently in it makes that whole middle strip go really skinny, therefore if I upload a picture like I want to you can hardly see it. How do I remove my logo yet still keep that middle area the same size? I hope this makes sense.
    Thanks

The size of the header background picture is actually controlled by the header padding and your logo size:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/header-padding/

So just so I understand, the layout you want is logo plus social icons on the right, and a picture below that, then followed by the navigation?

If so we can try to use a better method.

    Let me know πŸ™‚

Ok so keep the logo where it is right now, then add the social icons using the header widget area:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/header-widget/

Then add the image using after_header_content hook using the hooks element:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/hooks-visual-guide/
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/hooks-element-overview/

    Hi Leo,
thanks for your reply but I’m so sorry, it’s a but it’s a bit too technical for me. Firstly, I’m not sure that I explained myself properly to you as I don’t want to leave the logo there. In fact, I want to remove that logo completely (which I know how to do, but I will remove t when I have another one in place).
What I would actually like is for my new logo (which isn’t a square but a long oblong) to be on the left hand side at the top, in the same strip that the social icons are in. Then I would like that area underneath to be for my image only. The problem is, when I remove the logo that area goes much thinner and you can’t see the new image properly. How do I keep this area pretty large please? I also know nothing about hooks even after looking into those guide links.Sorry, maybe you could explain as if you were talking to a compete dummy please πŸ™‚

My suggestion above should give you that exact layout.

Let’s do it one step at the time and get the header figure out first.

    Can you:

    – Upload the desired logo in site identity:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-header-logo/

    – Add the social icons in the header widget area:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/header-widget/

Please disable WP super Minify plugin for now and any other caching plugins you might be using.

Let me know when this is done.

Hi Leo, I have done what you have said but I think my website all looks a bit of a mess now haha. I have put my logo and social media buttons where you have said but I have now lost my top strip. Ideally, I would like to have a top strip (don’t know what it’s called) as this is where I want my logo and social icons. I then want my image in the middle and then the ‘Home’, ‘Categories’ etc in the strip underneath. I guess you know what you’re doing so I will await what to do next. BTW it’s super late here so I will get your message tomorrow probably (for now I haven’t disabled WP super minify as I didn’t want to leave it off all night, but I will disable it before I do anything else to my site tomorrow.

    Thanks

Do you want the site logo as well as the site title?

Can you try reducing the site title font size and logo width?

Then all of them should be on the same line.

    Hi Leo,
I actually would like the logo to be top left (very high) adjacent to the social media icons so it all looks even, then I was going to have a background image. I originally had a separate strip which was a different colour along the top but it’s disappeared since I moved the social media icons. I’m not sure I can explain what I mean properly, at this stage I just want it to look ok, Basically, I don’t like the place that the theme seems to put the logo by default.
Maybe I could have it something like this website?

That header/navigation can be achieved with activating this option:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/navigation-as-a-header/

Then the second part can be done with a header element/page hero:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/header-element-overview/

See step by step guide here:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/how-to-create-a-page-hero/

    And some examples:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/page-hero-examples/

Let me know if this helps πŸ™‚

    Hi Leo,
I have spent the day watching all the videos in the links you sent me and have learnt a lot, considering I knew not much before (I’m not a web designer).

Anyway, do I need to move my hooks and page headers to elements? I haven’t done so yet but I have still been doing work in the elements section and have managed to get my background picture up. However, in the training on the videos when the guy is in the ‘Elements’ section under ‘Site Header’ he has an option of uploading a logo and I don’t. Why is this please?

Also, when I am in customizer and try to upload a transparent image it just won’t allow it. Is there a reason for this?

    Thanks for your patience! πŸ™‚
