Sorry if this sounds silly but I couldn’t find any information on whether or not activating this theme (plugin) will override my current theme. I just want to test it right now, not actually switch over yet. Is there a way to do that?

    Hi there,

GeneratePress free theme and premium plugin are separated so you will be fine 🙂

Let me know if this is clear.

OH, I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. I’m currently using the Avada theme. I want to switch but wanted to see how GP looks with my products before I take the plunge.

When I tried to install GP, I got the error about the stylesheet. So I uploaded it as a plugin as per instructions, but I didn’t activate it because I wasn’t sure what it was going to do. I’m guessing the plugins need to be activated before I can actually install theme, is that correct? Once I activate the plugins, will I then be able to install the the theme as usual but not actually activate it until I’m ready to switch from Avada?

The theme needs to be install before the plugin.

    Follow the instructions here:
    https://generatepress.com/install-generatepress/
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/installing-gp-premium/

The stylesheet error is likely because you were trying to install plugin as the theme:

Let me know if this helps.
