I don’t know anything about code or technical terms. Am frustrated with WordPress. When I put a photo on a page, it does not end up where I placed it. Paragraphs break in odd ways even after I use the photo tools to tell WP how to place the copy around or beside the photo. It’s not “What You See Is What You Get” at all. Am using the Generate Press Theme and paid for the Premium version but still don’t even find simple things like hanging paragraph formatting, underlining words, etc. I don’t see the option to update my add-ons. The program does not seem to include all the normal functions I am used to working with in other programs. How do I learn how to use this very frustrating website design program?
April 5, 2017 at 7:11 am #302060LeoStaffCustomer SupportHi there,
Sorry to hear you’ve been frustrating so far but we are here to help.
For paragraph formatting, GP has typography and color features:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/typography-overview/
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/colors-overview/For things like text underline, bold etc you can just use the text or visual editor when editing the page:
http://www.wpbeginner.com/glossary/visual-editor/Not sure what you mean by updating add-ons? If you are using GP Premium 1.2.96 as you indicated then that’s the latest version. Are you referring to activating add-ons?
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/installing-gp-premium/#4- activate-your-add-ons
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/updating-gp-premium/The documentation page is a best way to start learning GP and this site is good for learning WordPress: http://www.wpbeginner.com
If you can post specific questions, examples you are trying to achieve, and a link to your site then we are always here to help 🙂

May 10, 2017 at 1:37 am #316204yeswolfI need some help. I have one big column on my WP pages and the space for the Right Sidebar is empty. I want to put a text field in the right sidebar space but I don’t want to use the sidebar because I want a different story in that right hand column on every page of my website. How do I make a text field (or whatever I need) on the right hand side of my pages? Or is there a way to put a different right sidebar on every page?

How do I learn how to use this very frustrating website design program?
… sounds like the very beginning with ANY frustrating program 🙂 (unless you get behind the idea of how it works).
so i would recommend just to try and try and try – thats what probably everyone did at the very beginning.
its not that hard, but you have to conquer the learning curve i guess. and you might find tons of information, tuts and alike on the web.dont know what you mean by “the right sidebar is empty” … “i dont want to use a sidebar” and what exactly you are trying to achieve. there are ways for nearly everything with wordpress.
so far it sounds to me like you want the content to be full width and separate it into columns. theres shortcodes for this kind of things …
but if you want this to be WYSIWYG maybe you should try out some page builder like elementor.probably that may ease your efforts.
only disadvantage: elementor has a bit of a learning curve too … 🙂on occasion you may leave a remark if this helped.
May 10, 2017 at 7:43 am #316333TomLead DeveloperLead DeveloperYou could use a plugin like this: https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/content-aware-sidebars/
It will allow you to place a different text widget on multiple pages so you can use the right sidebar throughout your site 🙂
May 10, 2017 at 10:49 am #316437yeswolfThe original post above has been understood. I do not need help with that any more. What I need is help with my most recent questions.
I do not want to put the same sidebar on every page. That is what I am asking about. I want to put a different article on the right side of every page and can’t figure out how to do that. If I use the Right Sidebar function, the same thing goes on every page. How can I put a different article on the right on every page?
Also, for some reason, the drag function is no longer working on the widget page. What is wrong? How do I fix that?
May 10, 2017 at 11:15 am #316445LeoStaffCustomer SupportMay 17, 2017 at 12:54 am #319059yeswolfI do not understand the note about the plugin for content-aware sidebars.
Also, I tried what you said about deactivating all the non-GP plugins to find out which ones of those were making the drag feature not work on the widgets but it made no difference when they were deactivated, the drag still did not work — so I reactivated them.
Can you help me get the drag feature to work and can you explain more completely the content-aware sidebar plugin please?

Content Aware Sidebars allows you to place different widgets on different pages.
While viewing the widgets in the back-end, right click your page and click “Inspect”. Any errors in your console?
May 17, 2017 at 11:45 am #319310yeswolfPlease answer these two requests above…

#319060I am new to all this and I do not understand the note from TOM above.
May 17, 2017 at 12:07 pm #319323LeoStaffCustomer Support#319059 Widget dragging not working: Could you please try Tom’s instruction: “While viewing the widgets in the back-end, right click your page and click “Inspect”. Any errors in your console?”

May 23, 2017 at 12:19 pm #323034yeswolfLeo, as I told you already, I do not understand Tom’s instruction to “…view the widgets in the back-end, right click your page and click Inspect…” I have tried Tom’s instruction and when I right click all I get is a window that says “Select All” and “Print”. Nowhere does it say “Inspect”. Maybe I don’t know what “view in the back end” means? I am in my control panel area (or whatever you call it), on the widgets tab (on the left down under “Appearance”, where the widgets should drag. Am I in the right place? It is impossible to do something you tell me to do when I don’t understand the instruction. That’s why I told you last time I didn’t understand. Please help.

May 23, 2017 at 2:11 pm #323106yeswolfLeo, I see exactly what you show me to do but when I right click I do not get the window with the Inspect option. I get only a window that says “Select All” and “Print” — exactly as I told you before.
