Hi,
I started my own translation of GeneratePress and it’s working well but I changed some lines in :
\wp-content\themes\generatepress_child\inc\template-tags.php
about the display of the datetime but it’s still in english on the website.do I need to do something else?
March 19, 2016 at 5:51 pm #180352TomLead DeveloperLead DeveloperHi there,
Translations are now handled through WordPress.org: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-themes/generatepress
Once your language hits 100%, the theme will be fully translated for you.
It would be awesome if you could contribute some translations for your language to help get us there.
Let me know if you have any questions π
March 19, 2016 at 6:01 pm #180353RyanThank you for the answer, I saw only today the full translation but I started with mine and for this project, I want to finish it =)
It’s for a gaming website so I could probably use other words =)
Can you answer for this case only?
March 19, 2016 at 6:04 pm #180354TomLead DeveloperLead DeveloperYou can create a .po file and place it in the generatepress/languages folder or in a child theme via FTP: http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/185999/override-parent-theme-translation-on-child-theme
March 19, 2016 at 6:33 pm #180355RyanOk, I’ll try to see how this works tomorrow =)
March 20, 2016 at 8:33 am #180465RyanSo, creating the .po file, I need to understand how this works, but how can I use your translation ?
I see the french in the list but what do I have to download or update?
March 20, 2016 at 12:19 pm #180540TomLead DeveloperLead DeveloperYou want to use a program like this: https://poedit.net/
Then use the generatepress.pot file included in the theme to base your translation on.
March 20, 2016 at 1:01 pm #180544Ryanok, I think I wasn’t clear enough.
From this link : https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-themes/generatepress
How can I put my Generatepress in french?
March 20, 2016 at 11:52 pm #180606TomLead DeveloperLead DeveloperOh, if you want to translate it there, just login to your WordPress.org account and begin adding translations in here: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-themes/generatepress/fr/default
Once you’re done, I can request that you become an editor so you can approve them π
March 21, 2016 at 4:14 am #180637RyanOk, I don’t understand what I am doing wrong or if I misspelled something x)
For now, I just want to use YOUR translation of Generatepress. What do I have to do ? Do I have to download something? Update my generatepress? Reset it?
That’s the only thing I want, for now.
And yes, after that I will help to finish the translation but if I don’t know how to use it :/
March 21, 2016 at 11:55 am #180712TomLead DeveloperLead DeveloperSorry, I’m pretty confused here.
Are you wanting to use files to translate, or WordPress.org?
If you translate the theme here and get the translations approved, your site will be translated automatically: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-themes/generatepress/fr/default
If you want to use files, you need to use a program like Poedit, and upload the files to your server as explained here: http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/185999/override-parent-theme-translation-on-child-theme
Those are the only two options for translation at the moment.
The first option is much easier, and benefits everyone.
The second option is a bit harder, but necessary if you’ve changed any text strings in the theme and need custom translations that others won’t need.
March 21, 2016 at 1:07 pm #180722RyanOh, ok, that’s what I didn’t understand.
So the translation need to hits the 100% and it will be translated automatically on my website too?
I’ll help right now so =)
Thanks for the explenation and sorry for the misunderstanding, I try my best with my english =D
March 21, 2016 at 1:09 pm #180726TomLead DeveloperLead DeveloperAh yes – that’s correct!
Once the translation hits 100%, a “language pack” is created and your site will be automatically translated.
Let me know which language you’re doing and once you’ve added the translations – then I’ll request that you become an editor so you can approve those translations π
Thank you!
March 21, 2016 at 1:16 pm #180741RyanThank you, I’ll work on the french one with my translator, maybe I could work on Italian with my father!
March 21, 2016 at 2:03 pm #180751RyanAnd that’s it, I translated everything, we are doing a last check to be sure and it will be ok =)
