Hi Guys … I have the Premium Version of GeneratePress.
The Readmore tag doesn’t work on my site in the classic editor or the block editor.
I’m unsure if my GeneratePress Theme doesn’t support it’s use?
Before the Update of Worpress 5.0 I had a plugin to do the job called (Read More Read less)
It’s no longer available since the 5.0 … I’m guessing it’s no longer supported?
Is there any way that I could add either a (Readmore Tag) so that I don’t have to show the full page of text?PS, I’m pretty much a novice …. Not code savvy!
Warmest Regards
Steve

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
Have you considered using the Excerpt content type so you don’t have to set the read more tag individually?
As for your question, are you saying this isn’t working?
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-more-tag/Let me know 🙂

Hi Leo
Yes when I use the tool you have highlighted (The More Tag Icon)
It sets the line across the page as if it has worked.
And then when you update the page … Nothing has changed.I have set the (More Tag) in the block editor and the classic editor.
Neither works unfortunately? When I Googled the problem … It said some themes don’t support it and some only work on the Home Page?
It won’t work on the Home Page either?
The Old Plugin I had that was called (Read More Read Less) worked in a slightly different way.
It was located in the top right of the editing mode of page and it displayed how many words before the Read More tag … You just set the number required and bang … It worked!
Site Ground advised me to delete it as it wasn’t tested with wordpress 5.0
But it worked perfectly!
I’m at a loss now as to how I hide my full pages
Any advice would be appreciated Leo?Warmest Regards
Steve

StaffCustomer SupportIs there a specific page I should be looking at?
The more tag is a WordPress feature, not GP.

Hi Leo
All pages and All posts on my site won’t accept the readmore tag.
It sets the readmore line, but when you update the page or post …
It doesn’t work!I know that the tags can be configured in code to not only work, but to work on every page and to read exactly what is coded in there. However I am not code savvy.
Could this be a coding issue in GP?
Warmest Regards
Steve

StaffCustomer SupportI think you are getting a bit confused on how the more tag works.
The more tag won’t work on every single page/page – it will only work on the blog/archive pages (The pages that display your posts).
Does this make sense?

StaffCustomer SupportI’m really not quite sure what you are trying to achieve.
So you don’t want to show the full content on home page?

Hi Leo
Yes … I’d like to right 20-50 words and then have a readmore tag so that my page isn’t all text.
But the readmore tag won’t work or the excerpts? My Home page is nearly all TEXT …
I wish to for a few columns with just a minimum of text then readmores instead?
So that the visitor can continue reading if they WISH to ….Warmest reagrds

StaffCustomer SupportSo sounds like you want the home page to display your posts?
If so this should help: https://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page
