yes, its just for a background image.

Without content, the paddings you set won't exist, that's why the image is not showing at all.

Check the other header element's content area, there must be some content in it unless it's only for merge with header purpose.

oh gosh ok i didnt know that was necessary (could be good to just auto add a comment into the header element saying this :)
