Is here any right time for starting the use of a child theme?

Hey,
I'm pretty new at building a site. I just started with GP Premium. First, I imported only the settings of a specific demo from the site library, uploaded a logo, then created the primary menu with 3 pages just for now. Nothing else. At the moment, the fact of using a child theme came to my mind, I found it out and just uploaded. Did I do the right thing? Will I proceed? Or is it a good practice to start using the child theme from the very beginning? Unfortunately, I didn't do so. So should I reset my site and restart from the very beginning?
