Darryl
Hey there,
Another question, related to but different from the last question.
https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/create-template-page-with-all-elements/#post-2375707With the above I can re-create my page layouts quicker than normal if necessary, but that is still work I don’t want to repeat.
Situation:
Prior to learning of that the handy GP php snippet in the prior question, I painstakingly created Element locations for bunches of elements on bunches of pages.
Problem:
After importing my site (move from multi to single site)… My site displays 100% correctly. However, I just realized that in the Elements back-end none of my existing Element Locations are being displayed. Even worst, is that if I open a particular element and “update” it… it will effectively remove my element from a bunch of pages. Necessitating that the page be re-built.
Question:
How do I generatepress back-end for Elements to recognize that there are currently numerous locations for my current elements?NOTE: I specifically used the gp site settings export/import functionality to move my site content, hoping to avoid… exactly this.

Hi Darryl,
For reference, can you provide temporary admin login credentials?
Please use the Private Information field for this: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-premium-support-forum/#private-information
Share a page and a specific Element where the issue is evident? We’ll try to see what’s going on.

My site has two portals essentially a “donor” and “recipient”…
I just re-built the recipient portal elements using the php-snippet for Element Layout Control.
If you visit
https://webinar.thesolutiontopoverty.test/index.php/bill-gates/ (visible -AFTER- back-end login)
You will see two sidebars…
But if you go into elements and look at “Donor Network” or “Profile Bill”, you will see that there aren’t any locations defined….
DO NOT SAVE THE PAGE… close the tab… If you save the page… my sidebars will removed from all of their current locations.October 16, 2022 at 10:17 pm #2375793Fernando Customer Support
I see. Can you first try to rebuild your permalinks to test? To do this, simple go to Settings > Permalinks, and hit save.

Silly me… tired and not accustom to my new workflow…. feel free to save an element and you will see that all the elements get removed…
regarding, your permalink suggestion… I tried that previously with no effect. I just logged into the staging site and tried it again… no effect.
all of my work is safe on my local test server.. so any solutions that you want to tinker with go for it… if you need me to “reset” the staging site let me know…

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
if after rebuilding the permalinks, if you edit an Element with the missing Locations, can you now select the correct location and save it ?

yes..that exact scenario happened when i was working the recipient side of my site… I re-built a few pages, realized how tedious it was going to get to rebuild everything, then I contacted you regarding page layout templates with elements

Also, as i told Fernando… feel free to tinker at will with the staging site.. my work is safe on my local test server…

StaffCustomer SupportI am not sure if i am missing something, i went into the Elements and edited the
Donor Network
and set two random pages in the Display Rules > Locations.
If i re-edit that element, i see those locations are still saved.I had to wait a few seconds for it to appear both when selecting a Location, and when re-editing the element.
But your site is running a lot of plugins and the Query Monitor is reporting over 400 queries and 130+ meg in some admin screens…..

Creating / Saving new locations works perfectly fine… that is not the problem that I am reporting…
The problem that I am reporting is that the Donor Network should have already had previously made locations that I saved in the element…
Scenario laid out for Fernando…
If you visithttps://webinar.thesolutiontopoverty.test/index.php/bill-gates/ (visible -AFTER- back-end login)
You will see two sidebars…
But if you go into elements and look at “Donor Network” or “Profile Bill”, you will see that there aren’t any locations defined….
And therein lies the problem.. the locations that I created mulitple for pages for multiple elements, work fine while visiting the pages… but when I visit the back-end the locations are not listed…If I save the element… while the previous locations are missing,… then the elements are removed from their current pages…
You have now saved the Donor Network Element at some point.. I know this because the “Donor Network” element is now missing from this page
https://webinar.thesolutiontopoverty.test/index.php/bill-gates/October 17, 2022 at 8:34 am #2376505Darryl
Because you saved the Donor Network element while the current locations were / are missing in the back end… It was removed from
https://webinar.thesolutiontopoverty.test/index.php/bill-gates/
https://staging.webinar.thesolutiontopoverty.org/index.php/lebron-james/
https://staging.webinar.thesolutiontopoverty.org/index.php/nurse-betty/Meaning, if I go through each element and save them one by one, I would essentially break my site and and need to rebuild all the pages and replace the elements… hours of work that I am trying to avoid…
The question is.. How do I convince the elements back-end to recognize the current locations of elements? because saving / editing elements in the current overwrites / removes the current location info and replaces it with new “blank” info
