GP Calling Font Awesome & GPSI is now HTTP/2 Enabled!
6 replies · Started by Ian on March 3, 2021
So great news. GPSI as of today is capable at testing with HTTTP/2. I have confirmed this and disabled all css and js aggregation and scores are great!
I do see this call by GP: /wp-content/themes/generatepress/assets/css/components/font-awesome.min.css
I don't use this font. Can this be disabled or does GP need it?
ok, update. I have checked "Load essential icons only" inside Customizer > General and deselected combine css. THis made the font awesome call go away. But another one showed up.
/wp-content/themes/generatepress/assets/css/mobile.min.css
It's flagged as render blocking. Any ideas no how to make this not render blocking?
Hi there,
You seem to be using an old version of GeneratePress. “Load essential icons only” option is way back prior version 2.1(2.1 removed FontAwesome) and the latest version up for public is 3.0.3. I highly suggest updating to it.
To answer your question: Consider using caching/optimization plugins to address the render blocking flags.
See Tom's recommendation here: https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/eliminate-render-blocking-resources-2/#post-1527484
Thanks Elvin. I see that, thank you! Odd, I have always updated GP when there is new release prior to this latest one. Wonder why it was stuck. Nonetheless, it's fixed.
btw, GPSI is now running with HTTP/2! So much easier to get green now! Just rolled out today (March 2, 2021)! We all win!
Nice one! Glad you got it sorted.
And thank you for giving a heads up about it. I'm actually reading the release notes now:

It's crazy trying to pass while it was on HTTP/1. I can't believe the actual ticket reporting this issue dated back to 1 yr before they rolled this out!

That's how it is with most things. :D
