Hi,
Our website is https://tier2tek.com/.

We have the annual subscription to Generate Press. We are trying to stay in the green with Google’s results.

Our Server is on a VPS (not shared). We did everything needed on the server side. For example, if we create a blank page, it scores 100 (green) on the google test.

We are trying to get the home page to be 90 or above. We have very minimal plugins and have tested each plugin before installing.

We have two areas we consistently keep getting a low grade in:
1. Eliminate render-blocking resources
2. Ensure text remains visible during webfont load

For #1: I followed Tom’s recommendation on: https://generatepress.com/fastest-wordpress-theme/
I installed Autoptimize and followed the directions on our website https://tier2tek.com/. Unfortunately, there was no change to the speed test.
We are still getting:
“Eliminate render-blocking resources”
…block-library/style.min.css?ver=5.4.2(tier2tek.com)
…dist/dsgn.style.build.css?ver=158…(tier2tek.com)
…styles/post-11566.css?revision=…(tier2tek.com)
…css/all.min.css?ver=2.4.2(tier2tek.com)
…css/style-min.css?ver=1.10.0(tier2tek.com)

For #2: “Ensure text remains visible during webfont load”
…fonts/fontello.woff(tier2tek.com)
I have no idea what this is and how to fix it.

Is there any way to speed this up or fix this?

Hi there,

You can use a plugin like Autoptimize to reduce the number of render-blocking resources: https://generatepress.com/fastest-wordpress-theme/

Fontello is likely coming from a plugin you're using - likely Lightweight Social Icons. You can replace those with regular SVG icons, although I'm not sure you'll see a massive performance gain from doing so.

Thanks for the response Tom, I’m glad you had a chance to take a look at this.

1. I followed your guide on using Autoptimize (the same link). I still have Autoptimize installed. My results are the same.

“Eliminate render-blocking resources”
…block-library/style.min.css?ver=5.4.2(tier2tek.com)
…dist/dsgn.style.build.css?ver=158…(tier2tek.com)
…styles/post-11566.css?revision=…(tier2tek.com)
…css/all.min.css?ver=2.4.2(tier2tek.com)
…css/style-min.css?ver=1.10.0(tier2tek.com)

Do you think you can take a look at these .css and see why these files are showing up on the google speed test?

I also read your article about how GTmetrix is much better. However, we are trying to rank well with google. Although website speed is a small factor to SEO, we would like to check this part off and stay in the green with their test.

2. Yes, I am using your plugin Lightweight Social Icons. Do you have an article to use SVG icons with Generate Press? For footer and header section?

Thanks for the response Dave,

Yes, I have the same options checked as the guide. The new version of Autotomize has some of these sections in different order. But nonetheless, they are the same options. Also, extra is now a tab as opposed to “show advanced settings”

I’m still getting:
“Eliminate render-blocking resources”
…block-library/style.min.css?ver=5.4.2(tier2tek.com)
…dist/dsgn.style.build.css?ver=158…(tier2tek.com)
…styles/post-11566.css?revision=…(tier2tek.com)
…css/all.min.css?ver=2.4.2(tier2tek.com)
…css/style-min.css?ver=1.10.0(tier2tek.com)

Did you resolve the issue? I am only seeing the autoptimize cached files being loaded now
