Global colors and fonts

Is there an ETA on a release date for the global colors and fonts with both GeneratePress and GenerateBlocks (free and pro)? Earlier in this thread it looked to be aimed for release in Q1 of 2021.

+1, I expected to find it in the v2.0 update, but it wasn't there yet :(

We're about to push the button on GeneratePress (Theme) 3.1 - which includes global colors and a new typography module.
At the very latest it will be released in Alpha by the end of June. Still lots of integration testing to be completed to ensure its 100% future proof.

Is there an eta for 3.1? I know it hard to be precise, but I want to start a project and will wait if it is not too far away.

Can I help test the Alpha? I'm copying an existing site.

There's still no ETA for 3.1 yet, unfortunately. Tom has yet to wrap up an alpha version for public testing as well.

Also waiting for CSS variables & global colors. Is there any news yet?

GP 3.1 and GPP 2.1 are close to reaching Alpha release which will include global colors ( using CSS variables ) and a new global typography module.

I'm looking forward to this as well. Hope there is some beta testing options?

they're two different things that provide similar functionality.
WP 5.8 introduces the theme.json for block based themes, which is just a 'simplified' method of storing the theme settings in a single file - very much akin to when you export / import GP theme settings.

The advantage of the GP approach is that it uses the Customizer out of the box, so a user can change it global styles through the well known interface. Whereas 5.8 will require you to create a JSON file to serve that purpose ( not to say that in the future there will be a UI for that ).

The big difference between GP and the direction that FSE is taking is GP is a foundation Theme. And WP's traditional focus is on single purpose themes.
