Hi Tom,
Thanks for the amazing theme.
My website is http://photographer.searchusa.net/
I have chosen to display complete posts in the home page & archives and is looking great.
However, I wish to format the tags and categories meta data only in the individual posts like they should be wrapped inside h3 tags and displayed in a column maybe within
<ol>
or<ul>
tags. However, these changes should reflect only in individual posts, not in the home / archive pages.Thanks & regards,
Surya
September 22, 2016 at 11:26 pm #228825TomLead DeveloperLead DeveloperHi there,
Glad you’re liking the theme!
I’m not too sure what you mean – do you have any examples you can show me?
September 23, 2016 at 12:21 am #228835SuryaThanks for the reply. Sorry, I have no examples.
But, I guess I can elaborate a bit.
- Current post format is like below
Post Content
Categories Meta in a continuous row (simple hyperlinked text)
Tags Meta in a continuous row (simple hyperlinked text)- What I wish to get is like below
Post Content
Categories Meta (categories listed in an ordered or unordered list with each category in a line within separate h3 tag)
Tags Meta (tags listed in an ordered or unordered list with each tag in a line within separate h3 tag)But this change should not reflect in the homepage archive pages.
Hope I convey the right message.
September 23, 2016 at 9:11 am #228920TomLead DeveloperLead DeveloperI think I understand.
I don’t know if it’s possible to wrap them in h3 tags (not sure this is good for SEO either).
However, you can stack them.
First, remove the commas in between them with this function: https://gist.github.com/generatepress/18e41e03783b5c7e86402d429e64efc0
Then add this CSS:
footer.entry-meta .cat-links a, footer.entry-meta .tags-links a { display: block; float: left; clear: both; } .tags-links:before, .cat-links:before { content: ''; } .post-navigation { clear: both; }
Hope this helps get you started ๐
September 23, 2016 at 10:22 am #228935SuryaHi Tom,
Your suggestion has solved the issue in part.
But, the formatting issues may please be advised about.
In the post, the category and tags are not in order
Example post – http://photographer.searchusa.net/white-wing-studios-mesa-az-85207/Also, I am looking for the category & tags to be displayed normally with commas in between them on the home page and archives
http://photographer.searchusa.net/
and
http://photographer.searchusa.net/usa/arizona-photographer/
The changes I am looking for should appear only in the individual posts.
I have added the styles font-size: 1.5em and font-weight: bold in addition to what you had suggested.
Thanks and regards,
Surya
September 23, 2016 at 11:30 pm #229017TomLead DeveloperLead DeveloperNot too sure what you mean by the order? Not noticing anything weird there, although the icons are still showing up which they shouldn’t with the CSS I provided.
To make remove the commas only on the single post, try this: http://pastebin.com/ZPtR61FL
It also looks like you have something custom going on with the category links being displayed as list items. If you can do that with the tags as well, it’s a better method than the float:left method I’ve used above.
September 24, 2016 at 9:21 am #229120SuryaHi,
Thank you. Even the new code is not working. I removed the float function in CSS and it is okay now. It would be better not to display the icons associated with categories and tags.Also, please suggest the code to display only tags and not categories in the meta data.
Thanks & regards,
Surya
September 24, 2016 at 7:01 pm #229189TomLead DeveloperLead DeveloperThis code should remove the icons:
.tags-links:before, .cat-links:before { content: ''; }
It looks like the empty quotes were converted to a weird character when you added the CSS. Not sure if you copied the CSS from another editor or something?
Try this:
.tags-links:before, .cat-links:before { display: none; }
Categories can be removed in “Customize > Blog > Blog Content”.
September 25, 2016 at 2:18 am #229228SuryaHi,
Thank you, the icons are not appearing anymore.
But in Customize > Blog > Blog Post Content, the options are for full post or excerpt. I am looking to have the existing layout without displaying categories.
Thanks & regards,
Surya
September 25, 2016 at 2:43 am #229232SuryaHi,
I added .cat-links {display: none !important;} and got the desired result.
Thank you for the great support.
Regards,
Surya

If no other options are appearing in the Blog section, it means the Blog add-on isn’t activated.
September 29, 2017 at 4:19 am #394115JosephI would like to have random categories appear in descending order vs ascending. I know descending is the way WP is originally coded but 10 out of 12 categories call for chronological order. So I added a plugin “Chronological Posts” to fix that. But I have 2 categories that should show in a descending order.
Thanking you in advance:)
