Ahrefs now happy regarding the css file too big matter (no complaint). Did run a new report and got a message that my site is now slow. Also did a test with Pingdom and see that the page is maybe 0.5 second slower.

hmm, maybe just wait a bit and see what happens. Or any other advice here?

How large was the file that ahref reported ?

Well i think aHref is being a bit overzealous... i would ignore it and keep your settings as they were before.
