Critical error on my website

My website has stopped loading after I tried updating the GeneratePress Premium plugin. I got the error "There has been a critical error on this website".

I'm now in WordPress recovery mode, and on the Theme Page it shows "Error: This theme failed to load properly and was paused within the admin backend".

There is an option to resume it, and when I tried to resume it throws this error: "Theme could not be resumed because it triggered a fatal error".

I'm stuck with the White Screen of Death now.

Please help.

Hi Ying,

I am able to access the admin panel because I'm in the WordPress recovery mode. I have tried deactivating all the plugins but website isn't loading.

That's strange.

Are you able to restore a previous backup first?

Hi Leo,

I have checked in the WordPress Manager but there is no backup available for this website, unfortunately.

When I change the theme to Twenty-Twentyone the website starts to load.

We have not had any other reports on this so I highly doubt that this is a theme issue.

Have you modified any of the theme files or were you using a child theme?

I haven't modified anything on this website. I'm not using a child theme. I just upgraded the website to the WordPress Core version 6.0.1. After that I tried updating the GP Premium Plugin, and since then I'm unable to load the website.

Do you see anything in the error_log?

Can you create a staging site for us to test if needed?

Please note that the latest GP Premium 2.1.2 was released in February 9, 2022 and we have not had other reports on this:

I have checked in the WordPress Manager, the Debug mode is disabled. There is an option to create a staging site in WordPress Manager. If needed, I can create it.

The error seems to be related to the theme because the website starts to load as soon as I change the theme.

I have created a staging website for you to test. Please check the link provided in the Private Information area.

Hi Leo,

Thanks for the reply.

I have reinstalled a fresh copy of the theme and the website is now loading normally.

Thanks.

No problem :)
