Changing install folder name

Hi,
The first post dates back to 2014 in this thread.

We all love GP, however branding might be an issue for some of us. Personally what I need to change is install folder name only. Instead of generatepress folder, I'd like to use my own brand name. Could you pls put this development into this year list at least?

Hi there,

While it's still on a list of things we will likely do at some point in the future, it's not a top priority at the moment.

If you change the folder name, you will no longer get updates to the theme from WordPress.org. Our white labeling feature would not be able to change the folder name, either.

Thanks Tom, although the news is not good for my purpose.

Pro plugin want to see generatepress folder I guess, is it possible to run it with different GP folder?

I understand that there will be no auto update in this case but I believe unzipping theme files to install folder solve this issue right?

You can change the folder names, but WordPress itself will no longer recognize the theme or plugin, which is why updates will no longer work. You'll need to manually update the files in each folder for every update.
