Tom
I’m having trouble with getting menu to show. I have set the menu up, and verified that it is not disabled. the theme says there are three options available for menus, and I’ve selected primary. Can you help?
Thanks, Tom

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperHi there,
Can you link me to the page?

I’m using GP Theme, edited mostly with Elementor Pro, Elementor Canvas, and using a template if this helps…

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperThe Elementor Canvas page template takes over the entire page – it removes everything theme related (including the menu) so it’s just a big white screen.
If you need GP elements on the page, you’ll want to use the default page template and disable the elements you don’t need using the Disable Elements meta box.

Hmm, I see. I did try switching that back from canvas to default after trying everything else I could think of, but to no avail. Still doesn’t show menus. Should I now see menus? Or do I have to start from scratch on two pages (two days) worth of work:/ Is there anything I can do to save the work done?

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperIt looks like the Canvas template is still active – can you turn it off then let me know? I should be able to see why the menu isn’t appearing – you won’t have to re-do anything.

I switched both pages back to Default template (and Updated). Does my “about” page show two “about” headers on your end? It seems now to be combining work that I permanently deleted with the recent work.
Thanks very much for your help!Tom

The front page is doing the same thing. They seem to have the new work superimposed over the old page. This is only with the elementor canvas setting switched to default template. Perhaps I can try deleting the elements from the old work, but I fear there will still be stuff I can’t get to under the new work…

StaffCustomer SupportDid you disable primary navigation here? https://docs.generatepress.com/article/disable-elements-overview/

No, But I do have Blog, and Copyright deactivated. All others are activated…

StaffCustomer SupportI’m referring to the disable element metabox on that page. Is the Primary Navigation checked? https://docs.generatepress.com/article/disable-elements-overview/

Yes, top bar and primary nav were checked. I had done that in desperation trying to reset things.
I think i see the problem though. Since changing the WordPress setting to default template my generate press website I was working on previously is now showing underneath the Elementor canvas page I subsequently have built using a template. Evidently I thought I was starting over, but GP was still on behind the new template I started building on. Is there a way to shut off GP without losing the elemetor canvas work?September 2, 2017 at 8:21 pm #378142Leo
StaffCustomer SupportHmm I thought we were trying to figure out why menu wasn’t displaying? If so it’s because primary navigation element is checked in the metabox.
You can’t turn off the theme, but Elementor Canvas should be able to built on top of it?
September 2, 2017 at 8:47 pm #378146Tom
Ah, yes. The menu isn’t showing on the new pages, (the ones in yellow and brown colors that I sent links for) because requests to display menu are going to the GP theme, and the menu is in fact displayed there, but not in the Elementor canvas template. But the brown and yellow template does not display menu. I’ve got one design superimposed over the other now. I think I need to somehow seperate the two. It should be noted however that when I select Elementor canvas in WordPress, I get my brown and yellow design but no menu will function. But if I Select default template, then I get two designs overlapping one another. Any recommendations given this?

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperI’m not too sure what you mean.
Elementor Canvas template replaces GP on the page – nothing GP related will come through. No menus, footers, headers etc.. It’s just a completely blank template.
With Elementor Canvas turned off, the theme is allowed to operate. This means the menu will display etc.. No two designs should sit on top of each other, as you can disable GP specific elements with the Disable Elements add-on. This effectively gives you the same result as the Canvas template, but allows you to keep the primary nav unchecked so it displays.
