    Hi,

I created a blog post https://website-doctor.com/the-anti-handbook-handbook-from-tesla/ and tried to add the featured image so it appears here https://website-doctor.com/blog/page/2/
    Unfortunately something not working

    https://website-doctor.com/the-anti-handbook-handbook-from-tesla/?customize_changeset_uuid=90b15ca6-7496-41a3-b6b5-401998343866&customize_messenger_channel=preview-2

The picture is not showing because the file path as above does not make any sense to me.
The picture is uploaded because on the Post

    https://website-doctor.com/wp-content/uploads/Teslas-Secret-Power.jpg

    the picture is visible.

Yesterday I updated my licence key for another year.

I have tried looking in the Customize > Layout > Blog > Posts but nothing seems to be working.

    Any help most welcome.

    Yours sincerely

    Charles

    Hi there,

Is there a reason why you are using WP Show Posts on that page?

Because our glorious leader Tom (your boss) created a plugin – which I have used on loads of websites to display posts. Until very recently it seemed to work fine and it did what I wanted, and worked as I expected it to.

WPSP is only needed when you are displaying posts on a static page.

For the main blog page, you can simply set that page to be the posts page under readings settings:
    https://wordpress.org/support/article/settings-reading-screen/

This would be the best practice.

WordPress also creates category archives that display posts under specific categories as well.

    Hi Leo,

I have not explained the problem very well. Previous posts which I have created the Featured image has displayed fine. Now I cannot make the featured image display. It feels like something has changed recently.

    Has something changed?

    Kind regards

    Charles

I understand the issue – my suggestion above of not using WPSP, in this case, is for the best practice as we will eventually stop supporting WP Show Posts.

That being said, nothing has changed recently on WPSP. Can you disable all plugins except GP Premium and WP Show Posts to test?

    Hi Leo,

Solved! – But please read the whole of my reply.

After hours of deactivating and activating and testing and testing, a thought crossed my mind the size of the image I had uploaded which did not work was 400px by 399.5px (which I thought was nearer enough ) to fit a box designed to display a graphic 400px x 400px.

When I made the uploaded graphic which did not display larger like 450 x 449.5px success – graphic displayed!

I set up the blog partly to test building blog pages using Generatepress and find any eccentricities. The things you learn by using something.

    – Problem solved.

However, I am most alarmed to read that support for WP Show Posts might be discontinued. I have used this on many websites one of which has thousands of pages and WP Show Posts is the centre piece of how that website works.

Having left one CMS content provider who stopped supporting their .net system I decided to move to WordPress – the sight of Tom and his baby made me think that Generatepress would be a theme which users could rely upon for many years to come.

Generatepress is a great theme and the support is second to none – please keep WP Show Posts.

Our plan is to merge WPSP into GenerateBlocks so you will be able to create cool layout to display posts much like the content template:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/block-element-content-template/

I’ll mention once again that you should never need to use WPSP unless you are displaying posts on a static page.

WordPress generates posts page, category archives etc automatically and it’s the best practice.

Obviously if you are working in a support function for the theme creator you are going to be a more knowledgeable position than someone like me regarding the best way to achieve any objective. It does not seem unreasonable to me to have used the WP Show Posts to display posts. Tom is credited with creating WP Show Posts and the Theme and it says that there are 90,000 active installations – I am not the only person to make the decision to use this plugin.

When I read the reviews I am far from alone in thinking that WP Show Posts is a good plugin.

Text is not always the best way discuss some decisions if Generatepress drop this plugin I am sure there will be a lot of disappointed users. A different approach would be to say that to maintain the plugin you need some additional revenue – could users chip in say $x for a licence. TBH I did not even know there was a premium version until today.

If the WordPress way of displaying posts is so fantastic why are there 90,000 installations of WP Show Posts I only account for a few?

I do think that the Generatepress theme is excellent and I am on record for saying that on the leave a review of the theme.

    Looks like you misunderstood me.

I’m not saying “don’t use WP Show Posts” or “WP Show Posts is a bad plugin”, I’m saying that “only use WPSP when it’s necessary.”

The home page of Donate shows a good example of when WP Show Posts should be used:
    https://gpsites.co/donate/

The Latest Articles section is added using WPSP and that’s the correct usage as it’s a static page with other non-posts content.

You are using WPSP to create the posts page and category archives which isn’t a good practice as WordPress creates those by default already. For example:
    https://gpsites.co/donate/category/campaigns/
    https://gpsites.co/donate/category/project-updates/

This user had the same confusion and he ended up not needing WPSP at all after I pointed out to him:
    https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/blog-link-for-additional-posts/

It’s totally up to you – I’m just providing the best way and practice to do things πŸ™‚
