I’m using showposts for my blog and have the blog page set up to show the last 5 posts. I have more than 5 posts.
I’m used to seeing a link after the last post that has a link that allows the reader to click for earlier blog posts, but I don’t see one on my blog page.
How do I set that up so a reader can click to see the next 5 blog posts, and then the next 5 and so on.
I have a couple of other issues as well, but I want to take them one at a time.
Here’s my website if you want to see what I’m talking about: https://adventuretravelplanning.com/adventure-travel-blog/
Regards,
Bob
October 28, 2021 at 11:42 am #1981126YingStaffCustomer SupportHi Bob,
I think you are talking about the infinite scroll and load more button feature, you can activate them at customizer > layout > blog:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/blog-content-layout/#archivesLet me know 🙂
October 28, 2021 at 12:16 pm #1981170BobUnfortunately that didn’t work.
I checked the following two boxes:
Use infinite scroll
Use button to load more postsThen I saved my changes and purged the cache, but nothing showed up on my blog page. No change.
October 28, 2021 at 12:20 pm #1981177LeoStaffCustomer SupportThe specific page you’ve linked is using WP Show Posts so GP’s customizer options won’t work.
You would need the AJAX pagination from WP Show Posts pro:
https://docs.wpshowposts.com/article/posts-overview/#paginationIs there a reason why you are using WPSP on that page instead of using the default category archives generated by WP core?
October 28, 2021 at 12:25 pm #1981183BobWhen I looked at the blog the first time it was blank, none of my blog posts showed, so I assumed I had to use ShowPosts.
Should I be doing this a different way?
October 28, 2021 at 12:31 pm #1981190LeoStaffCustomer SupportWordPress generates category archives automatically:
https://www.wpbeginner.com/glossary/category/For example, if you click at the Uncategorized link at the bottom of the content:
https://gpsites.co/marketer/2018/09/08/the-fastest-wordpress-theme/It would take you to a posts page that display all the Uncategorized posts:
https://gpsites.co/marketer/category/uncategorized/And that page would inherit the options in the customizer.
Is that something you are after?
October 28, 2021 at 12:36 pm #1981202BobI just want the reader to be able to click on a button at the end of the first five blog posts to be able to see the next five and so on.
That’s the way I see it on another blog of mine and other blogs I see online.
Scroll to the bottom of the following blog and you’ll see what I mean: https://nobledirectmarketing.com/blog/
October 28, 2021 at 1:21 pm #1981267BobNow the blog additional articles are able to be accessed after checking the “pagination” box. Maybe there was some lag time for this to work.
October 28, 2021 at 1:24 pm #1981273YingStaffCustomer SupportHi Bob,
You mean the pagination?
https://www.screencast.com/t/Zi77vZgK4j1If so, you can activate it in the WP show posts list:
https://www.screencast.com/t/Ox3VLsQ4October 28, 2021 at 1:29 pm #1981282BobNow for the next issue…
The colors for my links (regular color green and hover color tan) only seem to be working correctly in the sidebar. In my pages and posts they are blue (like they were when I originally built the website).
I’m wondering if this isn’t working correctly due to some rogue code somewhere that isn’t allowing the change because this is a website that I moved to a new hosting service and changed the theme from “X-Theme” to your GeneratePress theme.
I’ve changed the colors in Customizer>Colors>Links. Like I said… works in the sidebar, but not elsewhere on my website.

How can I fix this?
October 28, 2021 at 1:31 pm #1981285BobYes, Ying. That was it. It just took a while for it to kick in for some reason.
Can you help me with the next issue (see above)?
October 28, 2021 at 1:37 pm #1981296LeoStaffCustomer SupportCan you explain why WP Show Posts is needed in the first place?
I feel like it shouldn’t be necessary here – I’m just trying to provide the best solution possible.
WPSP will no longer be supported in the future (no timeline yet) the best case is to avoid it if possible.
Please open a new topic for a separate question.
Thanks!
October 28, 2021 at 1:45 pm #1981304BobAs I mentioned earlier, if I don’t have the show post code in there, my blog is blank.
Is there some kind of code that I should be using instead of show posts? If so, give it to me and I will try it.
This is the blog page that I was using from my old theme before changing to GeneratePress, so maybe something was lost when I converted to your theme.
October 28, 2021 at 1:50 pm #1981310LeoStaffCustomer SupportAs I mentioned earlier, if I don’t have the show post code in there, my blog is blank.
This doesn’t sound right. Can you show me the issue?
The blog and archives pages (pages that display posts) are automatically generated by WP and they should work.
October 28, 2021 at 2:16 pm #1981324BobHere’s the link: https://adventuretravelplanning.com/adventure-travel-blog/
This is what the blog looks like without the showpost code in there… blank.
