I looked at the site preview in the library, and the blog archives show without the summary. Is it a setting in wordsmith?

If I do full content it does show that, it's just the excerpt that's not working.

That is super strange.

It was definitely working when we both tested earlier no?

Can you try disabling all plugins again and give it another shot?

Sorry for the inconvenience but I'm quite baffled as well.

Might be worth checking if the excerpt length option in Customize > Layout > Blog has a value assigned to it?

Yes, it does, on both sites. I am at a loss. All the Classic editor posts do fine but the Gutenberg ones do not: they either show full or nothing. I republished a Classic post recently and that shows the excerpt fine.

Did more digging on this and looks like it's a Gutenberg issue.

Here are the options:
a) Remove the GB container block from around the posts
b) Add some text above the GB container block
c) Use a manual excerpt

Hi! Thank you, yes, I was going to try without the container this morning. I tested one and it works, so that's a relief. I tried a little text outside and it does not.

Do you know of a way I can remove the container on an existing post without removing everything inside it? O/w I am having to re-do the posts. Or an easy way to copy the blocks inside and reproduce them outside?

Thanks much!

Gutenberg doesn't make this easy, unfortunately.

You can drag and drop the inner blocks outside of the Container.

Another option is to delete the actual container code, which is a little more advanced.

1. Select your Container block and choose "Edit as HTML": https://www.screencast.com/t/i0UAUcUyyEb
2. Remove the first two container <div> elements, and the last two closing </div> elements all the way at the bottom: https://www.screencast.com/t/kflC7dWy6f
3. Select the Container block again and choose "Edit Visually".

If something breaks, you can always un-do (ctrl + z).

Thank you. That second method gives me an invalid content error. I will drag and drop. Thanks to the team for all your help!!!

Thanks.

No problem!

I have the same issue but my single blogs are full-width so when I drag the text blocks outside of the container, it goes full-width. Is there a more elegant solution in the works? Currently only solution is to use custom excerpts.

Not for now unfortunately.

It's a Gutenberg issue WordPress would need to fix.

Ok, has it been raised to the WordPress team?

I believe they are aware of it :)
