Ammar
Hi there,
I am moving theme to GP from an old one. I have made templates as local patterns which I upload to posts.
I am then creating new posts with these templates and copy pasting from the old site to the new. It’s very manual.
However, whilst things display correctly when the page loads, when I reload up the ‘edit post’ as admin it seems a number blocks have broken and I need to ‘attempt block recovery’.
Specifically Buttons and Headline blocks always need to be recovered. This of course tends to clear the data or require work.
Is there an issue when copying and pasting things in? Is there some kind of error being created when copying text from and old site to new?
Another issue is that the Headline block I have in a certain area has icons, this shows in admin mode but doesn’t display on the live version.

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
do the two sites have the same version of GenerateBlocks ?
February 12, 2023 at 4:36 am #2530195Ammar
Hi David,
The old site is running a different theme entirely.
So the new site has been created new with Generate Press and Generate Blocks.
All we are doing now is copy and pasting the old content to the new. This is done by going loading the old site up and just copying the text and pasting into the new theme with Generate Press.
For example, copying “Brand: Aveeno Baby” and pasting it into the Headline block. It loads fine on the front end, but then refreshing on the admin now shows an error and needs to be recovered (which consequently clears the data). This is also happening with buttons.

StaffCustomer SupportAh ok, so the odds are that the content you’re copying contains some HTML. Check this by copying and pasting the content to a draft post, and switching the editor to Code Editor ( via the 3 dot top bar menu ). If there is HTML in there, then it will probably break the editor on return

Thanks – I’ll use CTRL + Shift + V to remove formatting when pasting in. Thank you have a good day/evening.

Hi David,
Still having issues.
To summarise the issues:
– Buttons results in block error after adding a link.
– Headlines results in block error after writing manually or pasting in
– Pros/Cons – loses formatting and icons disappear after pasting in line by line.I’ve attached a video (private info) of the freelancer who shows actually writing the headlines in, and copying and pasting other bits. The relevant time stamp are:
– Button = 3:25 (for 15 seconds)
– Headlines = 4:30 for about 1 min if you want to watch all
– Pros/Cons 8:10 for a couple of mins to watch allAfter loading up preview – it preview’s fine.
However, reloading the editor results in broken blocks – even where the text is copied in, or where written.

It’s super strange as you can see in this video even when written it results in errors. What’s even stranger is that it’s the same blocks on every post and only affecting this particular freelancer.
If I try and do this myself (or others) no one has the same errors.I can’t even see they are doing anything differently

StaffCustomer SupportIn the current version of GB, all Button blocks are inside of a Buttons wrapper block.
If theButtonS<– emphasis on the plural, block is copied and pasted then it should work. Let me knowFebruary 13, 2023 at 4:34 am #2531296Ammar

StaffCustomer SupportBlocks become invalid if there is a difference in the saved content to what was saved for output.
When it comes to links, those may be being invalidated by WP, after saving, as they may contain odd characters or parameters that WP doesn’t like or has vetted for security reasons. How are other people adding links to the buttons? And are the all affiliate links that have this issue?
February 13, 2023 at 1:55 pm #2532115Ammar
Hi David,
I’m not sure that is the case.
It’s the same blocks on every post.
All links / content copied in the same way – as an example – the same link is applied to 2 buttons. Only one breaks every time. So it’s not specifically affiliate links, it just seems to be this button in particular.
There are multiple headlines – but the same ones break every time.
The pros/cons – again, same thing breaks every time.
What can we do to trouble shoot? I’ve provided a video showing how things are added, images showing the various blocks breaking.
Not really sure what else i can provide

Hi Ammar,
What happens if you try to copy and paste the text/link on a text editor first like “Notepad” or Visual Studio before pasting it on the Editor Page?
Does the same issue occur?
Moreover, to clarify and make sure, if you just type the text as opposed to copying and pasting it, does the issue occur?
February 14, 2023 at 3:23 am #2532657Ammar
Hi Fernando
We’ve tried typing (it’s in the videos…)
Have tried various copy and pasting, have tried typing – again all in the videos to show you exactly what we’re doing which still results in errors.
Would really appreciate some assistance here.

StaffCustomer SupportIf other users are not experiencing the same problem for the same actions then it may be to do with user permissions.
What user role do they have and does this differ to the other users who are not experiencing the issue ? -
