add new widgets to header area

Hi,
how do I go about to add a second and third header widget to the header area? I would like to have three widgets next to each other in the header. I know how to manually add a widget inside a PHP template but I can't find the right file to edit since header.php doesn't contain any widgets...

the styling I can figure out, but the main question is: In what PHP file do I put the code for my second and third widgets?

The code I linked to allows you to add as many widgets as you can into the "Header" widget area. They will show up next to each other so there's no need to create more widgets with PHP.
