Hi, I’m pretty new to this. I’ve been using a different premium theme and have decided to try GP Pro. However, I’m a bit confused about how to migrate from the current theme to GP Pro’s theme.
I downloaded and installed GP and the Pro license (currently it is telling me I need to make it the active theme).
I was going to try and merge the old with the new by testing in a staging site, but as near as I can tell, it drops things from the old, but I am not sure what.

I am thinking about just starting over with a new page, building it from the ground up in GP Pro, but not sure how to do that without disrupting my current site until it is done.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Sean,

A staging site is definitely going to be important to the overall process, especially if you decide to rebuild.

What exactly is happening that’s preventing you from making the switch?

In most cases, it’s usually best to rebuild from scratch on a staging server. That way nothing is leftover from the last theme that isn’t needed anymore.

    Hi Tom,
It could be that I have no idea what I’m doing. But when I made the staging site, it sort of pulled over my existing site and merged it with GP. I want to keep my blog posts and other pages, but have a new theme and new homepage.

If you want to keep the existing blog posts and pages, you can actually just activate GP at the staging site and start customizing from there.

Let me know if you run into any specific issues.
