Sorry in advance for the low tech question. I am currently running an old prophoto theme that is mobile unfriendly and very slow. I want to redo my site with GP, but don’t want my site to be down while I am redoing it with GP. Will my current site be replaced with GP if I make it my active theme. Sorry if the simplicity of this question makes you cringe. I realize I may be trying to do something that would be better left to folks who do this as a profession.

Hi there,
If you don’t want any downtime while switching themes, I suggest you create a staging site first.
Basically, you copy your current website and put it at a temporary URL. Then you rebuild everything and move it back to the live URL when it’s done.
Some good hosts have the ability to do this with a couple of clicks, so it’s worth asking them.
