We would like to create a category called Private in which we can create posts that won’t be publicly linked to, but for which we can privately send a URL to the post.
How can we cause this Private category to not show in the list of categories in the sidebar?
If I have to add PHP code to make that happen, how do I do it?

The Ultimate Category Plugin does not do what I want. Posts in the excluded category do not show up in the Blog of my test site:

But the “Private” category that I excluded shows up in Categories widget in the right sidebar, and one can then see all the posts in that category, so they are NOT hidden from the public:
https://thinkglobalgreen.org/tech/category/private/The Public Post Preview appears to accomplish the job we need. The trick is to save the draft. Then the checkbox for public preview URL appears. This is the one for my test post:
https://thinkglobalgreen.org/tech/?p=115&preview=1&_ppp=f47a2dc3d4But since it is not published, people cannot wander in from the public website — what we want.
