Hi, hoping someone can help. I’m having trouble getting Generate Press and Thrive Architect to play nicely together.

I have been building a website for a client and use Generate Press premium (I use it for all my clients), a child theme and Thrive Architect. All was working well for the past 3-4 weeks, albeit it was taking a long time for pages to load, along with the customizer.

Today I have come back to work on the site (no changes have been made) and I cannot access the customiser. All I see when clicking on ‘customizer’ is a blank screen with a left sidebar with no options to click on.

I have since disabled the child theme, disabled all plugins except Thrive Architect and GP Premium and still cannot access the customizer to change a logo.

If I deactivate Thrive Architect the customizer still does not work. The customizer does work when I deactivate GP Premium, however, I also get the error message “…………… redirected you too many times”

Both thrive and GP are updated to their most recent versions. I would normally expect disabling plugins would resolve the issue but so far no luck, which leads me to believe there is a conflict between the two plugins.

The website is due to be delivered asap and this is causing me a lot of problems, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there,

GP itself hasn’t had an update in a few weeks, so it must have been one of your other updates. What happens if you deactivate all of your activated modules in “Appearance > GeneratePress”?

Are there any recent errors in your error_log file you can share? It may shed some light on what’s going on.

    Let me know 🙂

Thanks for getting back to me Tom.
Disabling all modules did get it working.

any ideas what might be the cause?

    Cheers

Now when you activate each module one by one, when does it conflict?

Thanks for getting back to me Tom.

I’m not entirely sure but it seems a little random.
For example, the customizer loaded for me with the following modules (but loaded very slowly)

    backgrounds, blog

Once I added the color module it stopped loading again.
When I removed that particular module, however, it still wouldn’t load.

When I added ‘disable modules’ it worked again, along with hooks but ‘menu plus’ crashed it again. When I deactivated it, it still wouldn’t load.

Based on this I can’t say exactly which modules are the problem. Also even when it loaded with some modules active, it was very slow to load.

Hope that helps shed some light on things. Please advise if there’s anything further I can try on this end.

That sounds like a memory issue. Have you tried increasing the PHP memory limit?: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/increasing-php-memory-limit/

Thanks for getting back to me Tom.
I have added the line to wp-config
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to have made any difference. I waited over 30 seconds but it still had not loaded.

    Any other suggestions?

It might be worth asking your hosting company what your memory limit is set to. Some hosts will set it on their end so the wp-config.php method doesn’t work.

Thanks for getting back to me Tom.
My hosting company has increased the limit to 512mb, I’ve also deactivated at least half of the modules but still no luck.

IIt does work when I disable all modules today.

    Any other suggestions?

Did you end up checking your error_log file for any specific errors? Does your hosting company have any ideas?

    Hi Tom

Thanks for getting back to me. I have checked errors through cPanel and none are reported:
    https://ibb.co/iHvD3n

I have checked with the hosting company, they are saying the server is fine:
    https://gtmetrix.com/reports/res195.servconfig.com/J2QkPUJD

Any suggestions? I love the theme but need to get the project completed and considering it works when I change themes am unsure how to move forward from here.

    Many Thanks
    Marty

Can you send me temporary admin login details so I can take a look at the issue myself?: https://generatepress.com/contact

    Hi there,

the main issue of the Customizer not loading is due to PHP memory limits and PHP version.

If you can check both those values – ideally a minimum of 256meg of PHP memory and PHP version 7.1 minimum.

The php version is 7.2 and the minimum memory 512M, and still persists the problem
