    I’d like the header to be the equal size as the main menu i. e. I’d like it to begin exactly where the home icon starts and to end where the “search” icon ends.

    Also I’d like the header elements to be positioned to the sides: the site icon and the site title to the left and secondary menu to the right.

    See the attached screenshot to better understand what I’d like to achieve.

    Would increasing the container width work for you? https://docs.generatepress.com/article/container-width/

    Or you are wanting the header and navigation element to have different width than the content?

    You can set the inner navigation width to Contained as well so both element will have the set container width:

    But the container width needs to be big enough as you have lots of menu items.
