For the last few days I’ve been trying to update GP Premium, and I keep getting this:
Update Failed: Plugin update failed.
Ideas?

No good, my license is activated. Updates used to work, but now they’re not

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperWhen you go to “Dashboard > Updates” and try to update through there, does it give you a more specific error?
July 14, 2016 at 3:35 pm #209777mc208
Yes indeed, it says:
An error occurred while updating GP Premium: Download failed. Unauthorized

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperSo if you go into “Appearance > GeneratePress” and delete your license key, then re-add it (after clicking update), do you still get that message?

That fixed it, thanks!

Same problem on 2 different sites (for the last few updates).
I have not moved/relocated the site(s) so that’s not it.

Is removing the key, saving and re-adding it the only way to prevent this error?

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperAs far as I understand it, yes. You might just be able to click the “Update” button to tell the server what the correct URL is.

clicking the update button, as you described (like I do with other plugin updates), didn’t work.
Then I did the following:
– disabled the plugin
– re-activated
– clicked “update”Still no go.
Then I:
– removed the key
– saved
– re-added the key
– saved
– clicked updateThat’s the only way it seems it will work. The conventional way seems to have a conflict :/

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperAh sorry, I meant go into “Appearance > GeneratePress” and click the “Update” button next to the license key. That should send a new request to my server letting it know what the proper URL is.
As I’ve been told by the developer, the unauthorized message happens when the license key is activated on one URL and then that URL changes (small change or big change).
Not sure if there’s anything else that could trigger it.

I too had to Remove the License => Save => Add the License => Save before I could get the plugin to successfully update.
Great theme though.

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperYou might just be able to click the Update button next to the license key instead of removing the license and re-adding it first.
Glad you got it working 🙂

Hi Tom,
I just realised I needed to update my add-ons as I havent since I purchased them.
I dont have a license key field in Appearance > GeneratePress.
I have the “Activate Email” field but when I put in my email I used when purchsing GP Premium it gives the error “Email activation failed. This email does not exist in our records.”
Any advice?
