Can you clarify this please. When I go to my installed plugins, I have GP Premium, Generate Blocks and Generate Blocks Pro.

I am using a child theme of Generate Blocks.

So how does that work in terms of when feautures/fixes get pushed to the free theme (such as the fix here: https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/mobile-layout-of-woocommerce-shop-has-changed/#post-1949706 ), do they then show up automatically in the child theme? UPDATE: I think I answered this directly from here: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-child-theme/ where it says “A child theme is a theme that uses the core “parent” theme files, unless one of those files (in the root directory of the parent theme) are copied and added to the child theme. This is useful as when updates are released for the parent theme, WordPress deletes the directory and uploads the new one. Any changes you made to the parent theme files are discarded and replaced with the newly updated files. A child theme can also be used to add custom CSS and PHP in the style.css and functions.php files. These two files are the only child theme files that should be empty by default (don’t copy the parent files).”

Since all I am using in the child theme are functions.php and style.css (plus several .js files) and I have automatic updates turned on on my GeneratePress main theme, then I guess I will receive the updates as they are pushed. (My site shows I’m using v3.0.4 right now and I signed up at version 2.x so I guess the updates are being applied and all is well 🙂

Also, related to this, is there a way to actually know if I’m using all three plugins, or for example, if I have Generate Blocks Pro activated do I really need Generate Blocks plugin also activated.
Not totally clear on the interplay among all these.

Sorry if its a stupid question…

    Hi Randy,

I am using a child theme of Generate Blocks.

This isn’t correct/possible. You cannot use a child theme for a plugin.

A child theme can only be used on the free GeneratePress theme.

UPDATE: I think I answered this directly from here: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-child-theme/ where it says “A child theme is a theme that uses the core “parent” theme files, unless one of those files (in the root directory of the parent theme) are copied and added to the child theme. That is correct 🙂

if I have Generate Blocks Pro activated do I really need Generate Blocks plugin also activated.

You need both. The free GB plugin provides you the 4 core blocks: Container, Grid, Headline and Buttons.

GB Pro provides you these extra options to those the 4 core blocks:

Let me know if this helps 🙂

Thanks sorry I mis-spoke when I said “I am using a child theme of Generate Blocks.” I meant Generate Press.

Thank you for clarifying the rest.
