I just signed up with WP premium. Prior to this I’ve been using the ‘Magazine Edge’ theme. Do I edit using WP or Magazine Edge? Ie, can I edit using WP as I just purchased the premium?

I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Can you clarify?
Did you mean GP Premium? If you actually meant WP Premium, I’m afraid that’s not within the scope of our support.
Perhaps you mistook our support forum for WP Premium’s support. WP Premium is a completely different product from GP Premium. GP Premium is a plugin that uses the GeneratePress theme to work.
September 27, 2020 at 5:28 pm #1461527JohnSorry,yes, I meant GP Premium.

JohnNo problem.
By default, to use GP Premium plugin, you must install and activate GeneratePress theme.
This means you won’t be needing the Magazine Edge theme.
You can work through your site using WordPress’ Gutenberg editor or Elementor or Beaver Builder depending on what you picked on GP Premium’s Site Library.
To know more about site library, you can visit these links.

https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-site-library/September 27, 2020 at 6:34 pm #1461554JohnThanks, Elvin for your prompt response. When you said that I won’t be needing the Magazine Edge theme, does that mean that I have to change the theme, as you suggested to a theme in the GP Site library? Or can I keep the existing Magazine Edge theme which I like, and edit it with the GP premium, which I have already installed. I’m a newbie, so there’s a steep learning curve for me.

You have to change the theme to GeneratePress theme. Site Library is a list of styling for sites that looks like a theme in itself but they’re all technically under the GeneratePress theme.:)
I’m afraid you can’t use Magazine Edge theme if you intend to use GP Premium.
You’ll see a “GP Premium requires GeneratePress to be your active theme.” error if you use other themes.
I’m a newbie, so there’s a steep learning curve for me.
Don’t worry about it, we’re more than happy to answer all of your questions.:)
September 27, 2020 at 7:08 pm #1461573JohnThanks, Elvin for your patience. I think I’ll change it to the ‘Prime’ theme. I’m sure you’ll hear from me again soon. John

No problem. Feel free to open a new topic for any other questions you may have. 🙂
September 27, 2020 at 8:32 pm #1461621JohnHi Elvin,
I tried to download ‘Prime’ theme, but I keep getting “500 Internal Server Error [?]”
Thanks, JohnSeptember 27, 2020 at 8:39 pm #1461625ElvinStaffCustomer SupportYou may want to read more about this.
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/error-codes-importing/#server-error-500These are server settings you have to set to fix this error.
If you don’t know how to set these things. You may have to ask your hosting company for assistance in setting these up.
Also, can I ask you to open a new topic for this? It’s a separate issue that deserves its own thread. Thanks. 🙂
September 28, 2020 at 12:01 am #1461749JohnHi Elvin, I just tried again and it worked.
But I’m a bit confused it looks like the old homepage of the ‘Magazine Edge’ theme is still there.
https://dentaljournalabstracts.com/
And I don’t know how to get rid of it?
Looks like the old home page and the new ‘Prime’ theme are both there at the same time.
JohnSeptember 28, 2020 at 2:04 am #1461855DavidStaffCustomer SupportHi there,
did you resolve the issue as i can only see the Prime Home Page ?
September 28, 2020 at 2:44 am #1461902JohnHi David, Thanks for your response. As you can see I’m a newbie, Yes, I seem to manage to get the Prime Home Page. But after looking at it, I don’t think it’s right for me. If I want to choose a new theme, do I need to delete the existing ‘Prime’ theme first?
Thanks, JohnSeptember 28, 2020 at 3:13 am #1461934DavidStaffCustomer SupportHave you added any other content to the site or made any changes?
If you haven’t then you should be able to import a new site and the site library will detect the old site and inform you it will remove it first….if that option doesn’t appear and there is nothing you’re bothered about losing then its best to Reset the site with this Plugin:
https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/wp-reset/
Then install an new site.
September 28, 2020 at 3:23 am #1461946JohnThanks, David. I’m a bit confused before I do the reset, I find a theme I think that will suit me, it’s GridMe WP Theme. Before I subscribed with GP Premium, I had already installed the Magazine Edge theme. Elvin advised me that it’s not really compatible with GP, so I chose the Prime theme from the GP Site Library. GridMe WP Theme is not in the GP Site Library, is that going to be compatible with GP Premium. Additionally, GridMe has a Pro version.
I appreciate your advice.
Thanks,
John -
