We recently had an issue after adding a caching plugin (WP Rocket) the menu lost the drop down arrow and was replaced with a vertical rectangle.
Is this a known conflict?

Hi there,
not a conflict – WP Rocket ( as do a lot of cache plugins ) have a habit of messing with the order of the CSS, they require careful configuration and sometimes the need to exclude CSS / JS files from being combined.
To avoid this try switching Customizer > General > Icons over to SVG.
