WordPress thing, probably not a GP thing (Gutenberg on category pages)

Am I right by saying that WordPress, not GeneratePress, doesn't allow blocks to be used in archive (category) descriptions?

There are plugins that allow for a WYSIWYG editor to allow to slightly customize archive index pages but they are not Gutenberg.

Anyone know of a workaround or is that just a WordPress oversight?

That is correct - things like categories and tags are all handled by WordPress itself.

I don't believe it's possible to use Gutenberg in category description right now.
