Wordpress 403 forbidden after plug in installation

Hey guys,

I just installed the "Social Media Share Buttons & Social Sharing Icons" by UltimatelySocial plugin and now I cant access my site and not even wp admin anymore. The plugin had good reviews, so I am a bit confused about that.

I googled the issue and they say to deactivate the plugin, which I cant since I cant access the Dashboard anymore.

Next up is checking for a corrupt .htaccess File but before doing that I wanted to check with you guys if you have any other idea what to do? I am a bit worried that the plugin crashed the entire site and I cant get it back :(

My next steps would be:

- reset the .htaccess file
- delete the plugin via FTP

Unless you would advice against that and have a better way to fix it? Just want to be cautious here.

Hi there,

delete the plugin via FTP would be the best option.

Update: Without doing anything at all, it worked again and the plugin shows this message, must be irony lol. Deleted it again and will stay away from it. Do you have any recommendation for a lightwight social sharing plugin without these security issues? Or should I perhaps manually replicate the look of it using Gutenberg blocks? I guess the only downside to that would be to manually change the social sharing links each time?

I used to use:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/shared-counts/

It still works, but its a shame its not being kept up to date, as the two developers are top class.

Now i use Novashare.io - but its a premium plugin from same developer as PerfMatters.
Its ridiculously fast, even when using the social sharing counts.

Thanks, ill have a look if it works with the current wordpress version. Its such a simply functionality that i might just not cause issues of not having support for it. Might change in the future of course :)

Cheers!

You're welcome
