Word Excerpt displaying different than settings

Hi,

There appear to be changes to the appearance of my Blog page that looks different from the actual settings I have had for months.
I haven't changed anything on the Blog main page, but the word count excerpt being displayed has changed.

I checked in Appearance -Customise -Layout -Blog and it is still set to zero on 'Excerpt Word Count' for Archives.

I also have an Element for the Latest Post to appear at the top of the Archives/main Blog page, using Dynamic content where 'Excerpt Length' is set to 40.

However, the 'latest Post' and the Archives page of posts all have excerpts of 100 words +/- a few words.

The only thing I tried to do a few days ago was download a plug-in 'Essential Grid' which wasn't successful and came up with an error-'The upload file exceeds the upload-max-filesize directive in php.ini'.

I am using local host on my max file size is 2MB. I am reluctant to try to change this as I am really quite new to all this and don't want to mess anything else up. So I have decided to wait to download the plug-in until I am on an actual hosting site where hopefully the file size won't be a problem.
Could trying to download this have affected things on the Blog page somehow?
Using Local host and have Generate Press Premium.

Thank you.

Hi there,

it would be odd for a plugin that didn't download, to affect any settings on the site.
Can you share a screen shot of your archive page so i can see the problem ?

Do you have the Gutenberg Plugin installed ?

If you do, then can you remove it, As its not required,

I think I still need the Gutenberg plugin as I have some blocks from a while ago that aren't GP.
This wouldn't be affecting the word excerpt issues I am having though, would it?

The recent update of Gutenberg plugin does cause this issue.

Gutenberg plugin is a beta version plugin, it's for testing new feature purposes, so it will always have bugs.
WordPress's default editor is Gutenberg now, so you don't need the Gutenberg plugin to use blocks.

Thank you so much for explaining Ying!
I have deactivated the plugin and the word count is all back to how it was :-)
Thank you both for your help.

No problem :)
