With GP Premium do I also need to upgrade the theme?

I just upgraded to the latest GP Premium. Wordpress also shows the current theme as Generate Press v1.4 with an available upgrade to 2.2.1. I'm confused. Does GP Premium work with the Generate Press theme or does it replace the theme?

they work together. GeneratePress is the free Theme, and GP Premium is a plugin that adds additional functions to the theme.
You should definitely upgrade to the latest version of GeneratePress.
