What does the generatepress.woff2 do?

I see that in every page the generatepress.woff2 loads up. But what does it really do?
Is it necessary?
Can we remove it?
Hi there, a WOFF is a font, the generatepress.woff2 is the font used for the theme icons e.g hamburger menu, return to top etc.
