I’m having an issue with my Generatepress site that I just can’t figure out. I added a new post this morning at the following url:
For this post I needed an image header with a caption below it, so I inserted the following code into the “Content” section of the page header area:
<div class="my-custom-page-header"> <img src="http://gnomadhome.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/@kingy-meaning-of-vanlife-feature_1080x750.jpg" alt="The Meaning of Vanlife Community" /> <p style="font-size:12px;">Photo by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/kingy.photos">kingy.photos</a></p> </div>
When I view the post and my site on Chrome, Firefox, or Safari on both desktop and mobile everything looks as it should. However, when I click through share links on both Facebook and Instagram mobile apps (so I am viewing it through their built in browsers), neither my site logo nor the page header image load. There’s just a broken image icon.
If you want to view this, you can search for my page “Gnomad Home” on the Facebook mobile app and click the most recent post.
I’m wondering if the Facebook browser is having trouble rendering the code for the featured image due to how it caches pages. I’ve already tried clearing my site’s cache and also forcing Facebook to rescrape the url using the Facebook debugger, but it’s still not working. I’ve never had this problem with the logo before, but I did migrate from Host Gator to WPX Hosting about a week ago, and in the process some of the logo areas lost there logos. I could just be missing something in the customizer, but it shows fine on mobile browsers, just not the Facebook/Instagram built in browsers.
I couldn’t find anything about this issue in a search, and I’m at a loss here. Any idea what might be going on and how I can fix it?June 13, 2017 at 12:08 am #332753TomLead DeveloperLead Developer
Hmm that’s weird.
One thing I’m noticing is your site is loading https, but the images are still requesting http.
You can try re-uploading the mobile header logo.
As for the content (images etc..), a plugin like this might help: https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/velvet-blues-update-urls/
