    Hello,

the theme update comes with a warning: “Any customizations you have made to theme files will be lost”.

Does that mean all the customizations we did to the appearance of the website will be lost??

    Please clarify?

    Thanks,

    Hi there,

If you made any changes to the theme files, yes, they will be erased during theme updates.

The changes you made in customizer or page/post editor will not be affected.

So the question is yours, have you made any changes to the theme files?

    Hi there,

Theme files are files that comes with the theme by default when you install the theme. ๐Ÿ˜€

Here’s the list of default files and folders that comes w/ the theme when you install it.
    https://github.com/tomusborne/generatepress

If any of these files are modified for any specific purpose, if you decide to update the theme after the modification, the said modifications will be overwritten by fresh new files from the update.

That’s what “Any customizations you have made to theme files will be lost” message meant when user tries to update the theme. It’s a warning for users that modify default theme files instead of doing things on a child theme.

You can ignore this if it’s not applicable. ๐Ÿ˜€
