Using the old generatepress

I am using a generateress theme and I noticed that upgrade is alerted on my WordPress dashboard and I am worrying if I update it then might be my website design will be mess up as I have coded some CSS on an additional CSS section.

The CSS in Additional CSS field will be saved through updates :)
I won't believe this It won't affect and smoothly update without hurting it but someone has advised me not to update?
Not sure how to answer that one.
You can always back up your current site before updating in case there are issues.
