Using smaller container width on desktop

I would like to reduce the size of the content column on the desktop. Please see private information.
Also besides changing the container width and using https://docs.generatepress.com/article/sidebar-widths/#fixed-width for a fixed sidebar of 300 do I need to change anything else to ensure this is only done for desktop?

The content container width is around 990px.
You should not need to do other settings.
