Using font awesome icons as bullets

You may want to replace .widget with a more specific class for that widget.

Which widget are you using to display the category list? Is it the default WP one?

A footer widget with a custom taxonomy

All my other CSS works fine except the font awesome

Hard to tell without seeing the site, can you use browser inspector on the footer widget and send me a screenshot of the elements markup?

I have edited the code here to target the widget ID. If that don't work then we may need to target the li instead of the ul

The thing is as the image shows, the font awesome icon is trying hard to show but it's not quite there.

Did that CSS remove the bullet point which is covering the icon? If not try this:
