His customization is deleted whenever the WP version is updated. He created a child theme. Most likely as recommended by you folks ! I just created a new site: http://www.discuss-culture.com Is it possibly to export/import the child theme from one GP-site to another GP-site? Thanks ! John May 24, 2022 at 4:44 am #2230710 DavidStaff Customer Support Hi there, Child Themes are their own theme and are saved in your sites /wp-content/themes folder. So you can access that folder via FTP, download it to your desktop, zip it up. And then you can upload it as a theme to any of your sites. May 24, 2022 at 4:49 am #2230721 John I googled “Generatepress child theme.” Sent me to the GP-description. From there I can’t remember what I did. So many keystrokes today since 8 a.m. I suspect that I created a new child theme. I then activated it. It seems to have not messed anything up. When creating apply-culture.com do you suggest I take the same approach or do what you recommend above? I assume that there are advantages to taking your approach. Let me know. Thanks, David ! May 24, 2022 at 5:28 am #2230763 DavidStaff Customer Support Ok … i have to say i am little bit confused 🙂 Lets go back to basics. This doc here explains adding a child theme: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-child-theme/ And it includes a link to a blank child theme: https://generatepress.com/api/themes/generatepress_child.zip You can simply upload the .zip into your Dashboard > Themes and activate that child theme. ————— I assumed your developer had added code to the Child Theme and you wanted to use it on other sites. May 24, 2022 at 5:31 am #2230768 John Yes, David, I think I added a blank child theme. In fact, that had to have been the case. You write: “I assumed your developer had added code to the Child Theme and you wanted to use it on other sites.” Yes, that is the case. Which means I need to take the route you recommend above. I’ll do that now. And let you know how it goes. May 24, 2022 at 5:38 am #2230778 John Ok, no problem getting to that folder with the name: generatepress_child. However, I am not sure how to make a copy to my desktop. I don’t see that option. If mess it up it messes up the site: understand-culture.com May 24, 2022 at 5:56 am #2230812 John That worked, David. Thank you ! May 24, 2022 at 5:57 am #2230814 DavidStaff Customer Support Glad to hear that! Author Posts Viewing 8 posts - 1 through 8 (of 8 total) You must be logged in to reply to this topic.
