upgrade 1.6.2 to 2.1?

I have missed news of the new version and wonder if there is an upgrade path from the older to the new? I am assuming 2.x is the developing version and 1.6.x is maintenance only -is this correct?

1.6.2 is the latest version of GP Premium (the plugin).
2.1 is the latest version of GeneratePress (the theme).
