Ella
Hello,
I updated the PHP on my site: http://www.forgettingfairytales.com and in doing so, my homepage changed – it now just shows a feed of posts. I had ShowPosts breaking down my different blog categories before and these still seem to be here, but I can’t see how to add them in again, as when I’m on the homepage, I can’t see an “edit”, only a customise, and when I go to pages, I can’t see a published homepage page to edit there. What am I doing wrong please?
Thanks,

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
in Dashboard > Settings > Reading, what is the Home page set to Display ?
January 20, 2023 at 1:29 am #2502487Ella
It’s set to display “Your Latest Posts”, but when I click to select it to display a page instead, there’s no homepage option. It’s like that old page has completely disappeared! I’ve also noticed my blog page has disappeared too and when I search http://forgettingfairytales.com/blog/ it comes up with a broken link, when I’m pretty sure – beforehand – that was the URL to show all blog posts! (Very confusing!)
Let me know what to do next! Thanks so much!
All the best,

Update: it has definitely deleted my blog category. See here: https://ibb.co/PY6M1Md How do I restore it? And likewise, it’s probably done the same thing with the homepage for some reason…

Likewise – I’ve also now noticed it’s completely deleted my Contact page also. Can I get this back somehow too, or I have to recreate that one? Let me know!

StaffCustomer SupportCan you speak to your hosting provider ? As upgrading a PHP version should not delete pages or make change to the sites setup. Something else must have interfered. I would suggest they install the latest backup before the upgrade was made.

Spoke to my host. We can’t find a resolution, so I’ll have to re-create the pages. I can’t restore a backup as I’ve added new posts and pages since then.
Can you just tell me how to do the homepage please? As I can’t just press “edit” on that one.
Thanks,

StaffCustomer SupportYou will need to create a new Page to recreate that.
Once built, go to Settings > Reading and set the Homepage to a Static Page. And then select that new page.Ask your host if they can restore a backup to a dev server, then you could copy and paste the old home page to your current site.

Okay, managed to do that, thank you. And how do I create the blog page so that it’s just a page with all of the posts listed, with the latest ones at the top?
Thanks,

StaffCustomer SupportCreate a new static page, and title it
Blogor whatever you require.
Then in Settings > Reading select that Page as your blog.February 1, 2023 at 7:18 am #2517004Ella
I’m a little confused as how to set it so that the blog page simply shows all the blog posts though? Sorry. Could you please clarify / break it down a little further?
Thanks,

StaffCustomer Support1. Go to pages, and create a new page with NO content, the page title can be blog/articles or whatever you want, hit the publish button.
2. Go to dashboard > settings > reading, and select that blog page as the posts page.
