Update Site Header with Image in the background

Hello! I am new to generate press. I bought it on the recommendation of WP crafter. I thought I needed the premium option to edit my sites header. I have this boring black and white header (see below)
I am trying to upload an image in the background of the header to make it more appealing but it seems I ended up putting the header below the menu.
I am trying to spruce up the appearance above the menu and make this on all pages..
Also is there a way to change the color of the header (above the black bar?)
And to change the color of the black bar?

Hi actually I found it! I had to enable backgrounds in the plugin.
What is the recommended size of the image so I can crop one for the header (NAV section)?
