unable to insert read more tag

My site is a information site, not a blog. But I do occasionally post blog articles. I just posted a long blog article and want to use the "read more" break but it does not work. I believe it is because I have my settings as "home page is a static page" and not your latest posts. That is how I want it but then the "more" insert does not work. Only works if I change it to "your home page displays your latest posts", and the is not what I want
Note that I am using the classic editor.
Don't know if there is a work=around for this.

i went to your Blog and the latest post: '15 Days—3 Countries–One Big Lesson!' has a read-more being displayed - did you manage to fix this?
Well, when I look at the published result it does not show the read-more. Cleared my cache..still does not show.
By default the Read More only displays in the Post Archives not within the Single Post.
Are you wanting a read more link to appear within the single post ?
Yes, that is what I was trying to do.....did not realize that it only showed in the archives.
