trouble with read more tag

I've followed the directions for inserting the read more code into a post, and it still won't work for me. Is there something else I should be looking for?

Can you guide me to the blog page?
for example - http://peabodycenter.org/cmhandbook/ - would love to have a "read more" after the first paragraph, but when I put the html code in, it show up in wordpress, but nothing happens on the actual site....??
Not sure if I understand. The page you linked is already a single post page which is supposed to show full article.
The read more buttons are supposed to show on posts/archive pages.
Let me know if this makes sense.
One of my sites has also no read more tag anymore in the blog section. but it is still on other sites ( also GP 1.6.2) My site ist here : https://bestohygienica.de/category/aktuell/

Are you using the custom excerpt field?
