Hi there,

in Toms code change togged for toggled - i have corrected the code above.

If you're loading a child theme style sheet i would recommend putting the CSS in there.

If however you don't need a lot of CSS then the Customizer > Additional CSS is fine.
This CSS is stored in the database - but for the current theme - so the CSS will be there if you switch back to that theme.

Thanks David! CSS works perfectly now. I can roll this to other sites now.

Also thanks for the tip on using the child theme's style.css to hold customs CSS. It makes sense to keep things there and not leaving anything in the database.
