The download looks nothing like the theme, am i doing something wrong
Which download? GP Premium?
Have you installed the theme: https://generatepress.com/install-generatepress
And the plugin: https://generatepress.com/knowledgebase/install-activate-addons/

Yes I installed both of them according to your directions, the plug in GP premium works fine, it's the theme that does not look like a them it looks like a blog page
By default in WordPress the front page is a blog.
To remove the blog:
1. Create a new static page in the "Pages" area.
2. Go to "Settings > Reading" and set "Front page displays" to "A static page".
3. Select the page you created.
May be this guide will help.
Guess I was under the impression this was a complete theme with pages that i could modify
Themes display your content, but you need to create your pages/content in order for the theme to display it.
